Swedish defense firm Saab has expanded its collaboration with Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency to include innovations in future underwater technologies.
The two entities formalized the deal on Wednesday during the Sweden-Singapore Royal Business Forum, signing an expanded memorandum of understanding to develop solutions improving maritime security and resilience.
The cooperation builds on a recent agreement to work on people development and smart technologies. In 2023, the two organizations inked an MOU to develop and produce a multi-role combat vessel for the Republic of Singapore Navy that is equipped with artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities.
“Collaborating with an industry leader like Saab enables DSTA to push the boundaries of what’s possible in underwater defense technology. Through this expanded MOU, we will build on our existing partnership to co-develop advanced solutions that not only meet evolving security demands but also position Singapore at the forefront of maritime resilience and innovation,” said Roy Chan, deputy chief executive for operations at DSTA.
In 2023, Saab partnered with ST Engineering, a Singapore technology and engineering company, to uncover opportunities in several emerging technologies, including autonomy, radar integration and support, and unmanned systems.
