Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, and Polish aviation maintenance firm Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze Nr. 2 S.A have signed a letter of intent to expand F100 engine maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities in Poland.
The partnership aims to meet the Polish Air Force’s growing requirements for F100 engine sustainment. It will involve Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów, the facility that has supported the military service’s F-16 fleet since the F100 engines were built locally from 2005 to 2008.
“We plan to use existing knowledge and experience, as well as infrastructure testing facilities, to provide the full cycle of F100 engine maintenance in country,” said Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów General Director Piotr Owsick.
Meanwhile, WZL2 President Dariusz Sokólski said the collaboration builds on its longstanding relationship with Pratt & Whitney and will expand WZL2’s capabilities. Currently, WZL2 is the Polish Armed Forces’ main partner in sustaining its aircraft, including the Su-22, MiG-29, F-16 and C-130 Hercules.
According to RTX, Pratt & Whitney’s F100 engines have powered the F-15 and F-16 fighter jets for over 50 years and are used by 23 air forces worldwide. Earlier, the aerospace manufacturer inked a similar deal with South Korea, aiming to provide F100 engine sustainment support for the country’s F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons by 2027.
