USAF Official Promotes Interoperability Among Indo-Pacific Partners

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin said interoperability with allies is key to addressing the logistics and connectivity challenges that hinder efforts to maintain stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Speaking on a panel during the Indo-Pacific Air Chiefs Conference in Japan on Tuesday, Allvin highlighted the need to strengthen alliances and partnerships by building systems interoperability, removing policy barriers and expanding information exchanges to form a truly combined coalition force that can respond to threats in an informed and timely manner.

According to the general, the Air Force is investing in its capabilities while supporting its allies and Indo-Pacific partners in improving their assets. In July, the U.S. announced plans to upgrade its military command in Japan to enhance military readiness in response to China’s activities in the region.

Following the conference, Allvin met with Gen. Uchikura Hiroaki, Japan Air Self-Defense Force chief of staff, and Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño, commanding general of the Philippine Air Force. Commenting on the trilateral meeting, the USAF chief of staff said multilateral events help attract more partners to achieve asymmetric advantage in facing Indo-Pacific challenges.
