Lithuania has awarded Saab a new contract for an additional mobile short-range air defense system valued at $116 million.
Lithuania placed the first $123.3 million order for the air defense system in July after delivering Bolide missiles for the Lithuanian Armed Forces Air Defence Battalion’s existing MSHORAD.
Under the new deal, the Baltic state will receive mobile firing units, mobile radar units, and a command and control system. The vendor will also support the integration of the solution into the nation’s Oshkosh-made Joint Light Tactical Vehicles.
Saab said its MSHORAD mobile anti-air solution — comprising the Giraffe 1X radar, the C2 command and control communication platform, and the RBS 70 NG Remote Weapon Station — can identify, deter, and neutralize airborne threats.
“The acquisition of the MSHORAD will enhance the Lithuanian military’s capability to counter potential enemy air attacks,” said Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas. “The advantage of this system is its mobility, making it a highly necessary system for Lithuania.”
