RAM-System has secured a contract modification worth $400.8 million to supply the German Navy with additional Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2B guided missile round packs and related equipment.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the firm-fixed-price modification is part of a cooperative memorandum of understanding between the two countries, with Naval Sea Systems Command overseeing the contract. The work will be distributed across multiple locations in the United States and Germany, with completion slated for November 2031.
Modern Self-Defense Weapon
Ottobrunn-based RAM-System GmbH, a joint venture of MBDA Deutschland, Diehl Stiftung and Diehl BGT Defence, is the prime contractor for the RAM naval self-defense system in Europe, while RTX serves as its U.S. partner.
The supersonic, lightweight, fire-and-forget RAM is designed to neutralize anti-ship missiles, helicopters, aircraft and surface craft. The Block 2B version features enhanced guidance and control systems for close-range defense.
RAM is currently used on more than 165 ships in 11 countries. MBDA Deutschland said the Deutsche Marine deploys the system in its K130 corvettes and F123, F124 and F125 class frigates. It will also be integrated into the multipurpose MKS180, also known as the F126 frigate, Berlin’s largest combat ship in its naval fleet.
