Global private equity firm NewSpace Capital has appointed John E. Shaw and Ruy Pinto to its industry advisory board.
Shaw is a retired lieutenant general who previously served as deputy commander of the U.S. Space Command from 2020 to 2023 and first commander of the U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and entered the Air Force in 1990. He then held various positions in the space and the defense sector, including stints at U.S. Strategic Command as director of the Commander’s Action Group and at the Pentagon as deputy chief of space strategy integration and a senior policy adviser.
Pinto, a Rio de Janeiro Catholic University alumnus, briefly served as CEO of Luxembourg-based SES and is on the commercial satellite operator’s current executive team as an adviser to SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh on key projects, including the company’s participation in the European Commission’s Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite Space Program. Previous leadership roles include those at Inmarsat and UKSpace.
Bogdan Gogulan, NewSpace Capital’s CEO and managing partner, highlighted the knowledge and unique perspectives the new appointees will bring to the firm. “Space is playing an increasingly important role in our lives and the sector is growing rapidly,” the executive said in a statement. “The expertise of Lt. Gen. Shaw and Ruy will be invaluable as our portfolio companies continue leading the development of the space ecosystem.”
NewSpace Capital’s current investees include synthetic aperture radar manufacturer ICEYE, Earth observation camera solutions provider Simera Sense and Kayrros, a global environmental intelligence company.
