Leonardo has secured a contract from the United Arab Emirates to upgrade the Ministry of Defence’s communications network.
Under the contract, the Italian defense technology company will design and modernize the Emirati military’s network, focusing on advanced encryption techniques to ensure the system is secure, integrated and interoperable. Initially launched in 2017, the initiative aims to enhance the nation’s IT infrastructure, protect its data and services, and boost its resilience against cyber and physical threats.
According to Leonardo, the contract award builds on its five-decade history of collaboration with the Arab nation, providing a range of products and services across both civil and defense sectors. UAE Navy ships are integrated with Leonardo’s naval systems and the company also helps run a cyber training campus in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Khalifa University.
