The German Space Agency under the German Aerospace Center has joined the Artemis II test flight. DLR formalized the agreement for its TACHELES cubesat with NASA’s Associate Administrator Catherine Koerner on Wednesday.
Artemis II, scheduled for September 2025, is NASA’s first mission with a crew on board an SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft.
As part of the mission, the small German satellite will conduct data experiments to help develop electrical components for future lunar rovers.
According to NASA, the agreement with DLR is just one of five cube satellites that will be included in Artemis II. The agency said the collaborations with other countries, all Artemis Accords signatories, to launch the compact satellites aim to enhance access to space for the international community and enable partners to expand scientific and technological knowledge. Germany signed the accords last year.
