Leonardo DRS will be the principal contractor of a potential foreign military sale of heavy-duty tank trailers and related equipment to the Israeli government.
The proposed deal, worth $164.6 million, has secured Department of State approval, allowing Israel to procure more HDTT units and equipment in addition to the previously approved FMS request for the vehicle, spare and repair parts, tool kits, driver tools, corrosion protection, and logistics and program support.
Israel is expected to receive the tank trailers beginning in 2027. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the potential FMS will improve Israel’s capability to defend its borders.
The deal was approved amid concerns that Israel might use military equipment to commit international humanitarian law violations. In early September, the British government suspended arms export licenses to Israel, including those for fighter aircraft, helicopters and drones and products that facilitate ground targeting.
