Iceye will deliver radar imagery and two synthetic aperture radar satellites for the Greek National Satellite Space Project Axis 1.2 under a contract awarded by the European Space Agency.
The radar program, managed by the Greek Space Agency and the Ministry of Digital Governance, will gain access to imagery from Iceye’s existing SAR constellation prior to the development and launch of the new satellites to directly monitor relevant areas of interest.
Iceye will open a new facility in Greece to assemble the two SAR spacecraft, forming a Greek observation system and establishing a stronger presence in the country.
Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of Iceye, said the SAR satellites will improve Greece’s maritime awareness capabilities and national observation capacity, ensuring safety and security during floods, wildfires and other natural disasters.
“The project also showcases Iceye’s unique ability to provide a seamless continuum of SAR capabilities spanning satellite delivery and data services,” he said. “We very much look forward to collaborating with the Greek space industry and to accelerating its growth.”
According to Konstantinos Karantzalos, the country’s secretary general of telecommunications and posts, Iceye’s 24/7 dual-use remote sensing will also support object detection, surveillance and other related applications.
