DRS Laurel Technologies to Supply Anti-Ship Missile Defense Radars to US Navy, Japan

DRS Laurel Technologies, a subsidiary of Leonardo DRS, has secured a $66 million firm-fixed-price U.S. Navy contract for the manufacture and delivery of AN/SPQ-9B anti-ship missile defense radar systems.

The award includes options providing a potential total value of nearly $236 million for the supply of the radars to the U.S. Navy and Japan under a Foreign Military Sales agreement.

The contract delivery is split at 77 percent for the Navy and 23 percent for Japan, the Department of Defense said in a statement issued on Tuesday. 

The Navy shipbuilding and conversion funds obligated at the time of award include $32.5 million for fiscal year 2023, $16 million for FY 2024, $720,231 for FY 2022 and $449,812 for FY 2021. FMS funds of $16 million will be allotted for the Japanese radar procurement.  

DRS Laurel Technologies’ facilities in Largo, Florida, will perform majorijthy of the work, which is expected for completion by May 2027. The radar production will continue up to July 2030, if all contract options are exercised.
