Australia Extends KBR Service Contract at HMAS Stirling Naval Facility

The Australian Department of Defence’s Security and Estate Group and the Australian Submarine Agency have renewed the contract of global engineering, construction, and services company KBR to provide technical design services at the HMAS Stirling naval base south of Perth.

The company said its work supports the base’s facilities and infrastructure programs for nuclear submarines and contributes to Australia’s nascent nuclear submarine-building program.

The new contract builds on the design and construction activities at HMAS Stirling. The Houston-based company’s services to the base include developing solutions for submarine maintenance support facilities and low-level radioactive waste management. Frazer Nash Consultancy, a KBR company, will continue contributing its safety-focused nuclear technical solutions to the contract’s tasks.

Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions, described the company’s capabilities as a “cornerstone” in creating the foundation to build and maintain nuclear submarines. “The trust that has been placed in us is a testament to our long history at HMAS Stirling and the world-class capabilities that we can contribute to this critical national security endeavor,” he said.

In addition to its HMAS Stirling tasks, KBR will provide concept design services for the new nuclear-powered submarine construction facility at Osborne, South Australia, under a government contract secured in late May.
