Hanwha Australia has awarded Advanced Navigation a $5.8 million contract to provide inertial guidance systems for the Redback infantry fighting vehicles being built to replace Australia’s M113 fleet under the Land 400 program.
As part of the deal, Hanwha and Advanced Navigation will collaborate to develop and produce high-performance IGS for autonomous and crewed platforms used in land and aerial operations in Australia and other countries where Hanwha established its defense units. The fiber-optic IGS from Advanced Navigation are powered by artificial intelligence to provide users with reliable navigation capabilities even in areas where adversaries employ electronic warfare technologies to jam or spoof GPS.
“Navigation warfare has emerged as one of the most effective mechanisms to level the battlefield,” said Mike Smith, CEO of Hanwha Defense USA. “It has the potential to be the most expansive non-lethal effect in modern history.”
Hanwha secured the $3.38 billion contract to deliver 129 Redback units to the Australian Army in July 2023.
