Norway Gets Green Light for $580M HIMARS Purchase

The U.S. Department of State has approved a potential $580 million arms package for Norway.

Norway’s request includes 16 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, 15 M30A2 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Alternative Warhead pods, 15 M31A2 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Unitary high explosive pods and 100 M57 Army Tactical Missile System pods.

Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor for the project, will also provide training, logistics and technical support in addition to the weapon systems.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the possible foreign military sale will enhance the Scandinavian country’s defense capabilities, particularly its artillery and midrange firepower, and interoperability with the United States and NATO allies.

This latest arms deal comes two months after the U.S. government approved Oslo’s $1.94 billion purchase of 300 AIM-120C-8 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles and related equipment from RTX.
