BAE Systems Hägglunds has placed a $130 million order for Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist active protection systems for installation on a European country’s CV90 infantry fighting vehicles.
According to Elbit, the Iron Fist APS is an advanced “hard kill” system designed to provide armored platforms with 360-degree self-defense capabilities against the latest battlefield threats — including anti-tank rockets and guided missiles, unmanned aerial systems and loitering threats — in open terrain and complex urban environments.
The defense company said the APS meets the Israel Defense Force’s low volume, weight and power requirements.
According to Janes Armoured Fighting Vehicles, the Netherlands awarded the company a contract in September 2019 to supply the APS for CV90s, making it the first country to install the capability on the IFV.
Slovakia also selected the Elbit offering to enhance the defense capabilities of its CV90s, with product delivery expected to be completed within four years, beginning in 2026.
“Following the contracts signed in recent years, we are honored to be awarded this important contract by BAE Systems Hägglunds for a European country,” said Yehuda Vered, general manager of Elbit Systems Land. “Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist active protection systems have once again been selected by a leading OEM and an advanced military, as an innovative solution to protect armored platforms and troops, assisting them in accomplishing their missions safely.”
