British Forces Cyprus has received solar charging kits for electric vehicles from Beam Global, allowing it to maximize the Mediterranean country’s natural resources.
Under the deal, Beam Global delivered 10 EV ARC systems for installation and an accompanying trailer to move the chargers across the military base. The EV charging solution generates and stores clean electricity by tracking the sun to capture up to 25 percent more energy. It is rapidly scalable, compatible with any brand charger and capable of providing energy 24/7, even when it rains.
Lt. Col. Daniel Taylor, commanding officer of transport unit headquarters at BFC, said the portable system could fit a standard parking space and provide a clean energy source by harvesting Cyprus’ year-round sunshine. He added that the new solar chargers will significantly contribute to the British sovereign base areas’ environmental responsibility and emergency resilience.
The U.K. Ministry of Defence ordered the 10 canopies in March through Project EVOLVE, an initiative from the Crown Commercial Service that ensures the government gets the most out of its collaboration with private businesses.
