Thales UK has received a new order of lightweight multirole missiles from the United Kingdom‘s Ministry of Defence. Earlier in the year, the British government placed an order with Thales UK to ensure the supply of vital components in missile manufacturing, part of an effort to ensure the availability of air defense solutions amid the conflict in Ukraine

The $226 million deal will enhance the country’s short-range air defense capabilities, enabling the British Army and the Royal Navy to address various threats, including drones, fighter jets, and small and fast maritime vessels.

A precision-strike LMM could be used for a wide range of applications. For air defense, it is compatible with being deployed on versatile launcher systems to provide a close-range air defense system with the capability to destroy light aircraft and drones.

Andy Start, CEO of Defence Equipment & Support at the MoD, said Thales solution has proved effective in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. “Now more than ever, we need to ensure [that the] UK armed forces and our allies are fully equipped to defeat the evolving global threats we face,” he said.
