Teledyne FLIR Defense to Provide Thermal Weapon Sights to NATO Ally

The U.S. Army has awarded Teledyne FLIR Defense a $15 million contract to deliver more than 150 clip-on thermal weapon sights to a NATO ally.

The ThermoSight HISS-XLR optical attachment allows snipers to detect man-size targets over 2,000 meters away. It can be mounted on any MIL-STD-1913 rail interface in front of existing scopes and is compatible with various day scopes and weapon platforms.

The weapon sight also comes with long-range optics and an HD display to provide crisp imagery.

According to JihFen Lei, the company’s executive vice president and general manager, HISS-XLR meets long-range shooter needs, enabling snipers to increase their mission success rates.

Work under the contract, awarded through Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground, is being performed at Teledyne FLIR’s manufacturing and service facility in Massachusetts.

Deliveries began in spring, with additional product turnover expected in the coming months.

Teledyne FLIR offers three other clip-on thermal weapon sights, namely the MilSight S135 Magnum Universal Night Sight, MilSight T105 UNS and ThermoSight T75.
