Canada has awarded Spire Global a $1.03 million contract to provide automatic identification system data services for various government agencies and departments.
Under the agreement, the company will share its global ship tracking data with the Canadian government and provide users with enhanced visibility in open oceans and high-traffic zones.
Spire will also use its AIS position validation capabilities to help Canadian agencies pinpoint a vessel’s real-time location.
The contract, which includes options for two additional years that extend the potential value to $3.1 million, supports the operations of the Canadian Space Agency, the Department of National Defense, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Coast Guard, the company said.
According to John Lusk, general manager of maritime at Spire, the partnership will deliver data support that enables Canada to enjoy “unrivaled coverage of the open ocean and shores.”
“This contract reflects the trust that government agencies worldwide place in our technology and our commitment to delivering reliable, near real-time data that meets their stringent requirements,” he said.
