QinetiQ to Continue Managing UK’s Classified Military Data System; James Willis Quoted

QinetiQ has secured a $19.3 million contract from the U.K. Ministry of Defence to continue managing the Thundercloud system.

The defense technology company, which has overseen Thundercloud since 2001, said it will focus on Agile system upgrades to advance the data management platform for the next two years.

Since the 1980s, Thundercloud has been providing critical meteorological and oceanographic information to the British military operating globally. It collates, analyzes and distributes environmental data across a secure network to enhance situational awareness for the country’s naval, air and land forces.

“QinetiQ is proud to apply its expertise in cyber, data and electromagnetics to ensure this critical capability continues to provide its vital service to our military forces around the world,James Willis, UK Intelligence sector chief executive at QinetiQ, said in a statement.

QinetiQ will collaborate with Thorn, a technical managed services company, and other small and medium businesses to deliver the project.
