The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman a $49.9 million contract to repair the F-16 radar components of 11 countries: Chile, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Iraq, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Thailand and Turkey.
According to a Pentagon notice of the award on Tuesday, work on the tactical fighter aircraft’s AN/APG-68 version 9 radar will occur in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, until July 30, 2030.
The sole source acquisition supports the Foreign Military Sales program and will involve funds from Indonesia of around $278,000. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base is the contracting activity.
According to an Airforce Technology report, the strategic upgrade will help ensure the F-16’s operational readiness for years to come.
The U.S. Department of Defense is also modernizing many F-16 fleets. In July, it awarded a modification to an existing contract with Lockheed Martin to continue developing the F-16 Viper Shield electronic warfare suite.
