Netherlands Reaches Agreement With US to Procure Lockheed’s Extended Range Missiles

The United States has formalized an agreement with the Netherlands to procure the latest version of Lockheed Martin’s Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range for the Dutch military forces.

According to Lockheed, the missile, developed in partnership with the U.S. Air Force, provides continued significant long-range precision engagement capabilities for air-to-ground missions.

The weapon can destroy “high-value, well-defended, fixed and relocatable targets from significant standoff range, keeping aircrews well out of danger from hostile air defense systems without compromise to lethality or reach,” it said.

In February, the Department of State approved the Dutch government’s $908 million Foreign Military Sale request to buy 120 units of JASSM-ER missiles and related products and services.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the potential FMS will improve the Netherlands’ capability to meet current and future threats.

“We’re honored to partner with the U.S. government to provide the Netherlands Armed Forces with the combat proven and mission effective weapon system to meet their ever-evolving strategic defense needs,” said Scott Redmerski, JASSM program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
