Motorola Solutions to Boost Its LMR Business With New Ireland R&D Facility

Motorola Solutions is looking to fortify its comprehensive land mobile radio capabilities with a new facility in Ireland.

On Monday, the telecommunications equipment company announced plans to open a new research and development center in Cork specializing in software development for the LMR portfolio. The new facility follows the company’s allotment of more than $12 billion in R&D and acquisitions to boost the business. The technology is deployed in more than 13,000 LMR networks, including the enterprise LMR system used by the U.S. Air Force.

Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions, said the new facility would help advance the company’s vision for its LMR business, backed by its more than 200,000 global workforce.

According to Peter Burke, Irish minister for enterprise, trade and employment, the government welcomes Motorola’s decision to set up the R&D center, which is expected to bring 200 new jobs and boost the economy in the region.

The new Cork facility complements the company’s presence in Ireland and its support for the National Digital Radio Service, Ireland’s secure communications network for emergency services.
