Israeli Ministry of Defense Awards Elbit Systems $190M Contract to Acquire Laser-Guided Iron Sting Mortar System

Elbit Systems has secured a $190 million contract to deliver its Iron Sting mortar munition to Israel. The agreement with the Israeli Ministry of Defense requires the Haifa-based defense contractor to complete the weapons delivery over the next two years.

Elbit Systems Land General Manager Yehuda Vered said Iron Sting meets the international armed forces’ requirement for accurate weapons systems that reduce collateral damage. “This contract further cements our position as a market leader in precision-guided solutions,” he added.

Deployed from a 120 mm mortar, Iron Sting uses immune GPS and laser guidance technology to accurately target and destroy objectives within a 12-kilometer range. According to Elbit, its warhead can penetrate double-reinforced concrete and create a blast and fragmentation effect.

Elbit completed the final trials in the development of Iron Sting in 2021.
