BAE Systems has tapped Allison Transmission to supply the Allison 4040 MX propulsion technology for the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle programs.
With a track record of providing crew and passenger protection, CV90, designed and manufactured in Sweden, is used by armed forces around the world, including Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In May, Sweden ordered new CV90 builds to replace the units that it shipped to Ukraine.
Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director at BAE Systems Hagglunds, said the new deal secures the IFV’s position amid increasing demand for a reliable, modern and proven driveline.
The 4040 MX medium-weight propulsion solution is part of Allison’s cross-drive product portfolio. It is a variant of the 3040 MX cross-drive transmission used by the U.S. Army in its M10 Booker combat vehicle.
According to Dana Pittard, vice president of defense programs at Allison Transmission, 4040 MX offers the company a chance for international expansion by delivering innovative solutions suited to the evolving requirements of global customers.
Apart from working on the CV90 programs, BAE Systems also supplies a wide spectrum of military equipment to government customers such as advanced radar warning systems for the U.S. Air Force.
