Oracle has announced plans to spend over $1 billion in Spain over the next 10 years to establish a third cloud region in Madrid and provide technical support for developing Spanish skills in artificial intelligence. In its investment plan statement, Oracle said Telefonica España will be the host partner for the new area.
The upcoming Madrid offering is geared to allow customers to migrate their data centers’ workloads to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in a process that follows the Digital Operational Resilience Act and European outsourcing guidelines.
The new cloud region will offer migration for all kinds of workloads and provide opportunities for applications modernization, data innovation, analytics and AI use.
Albert Triola, Oracle country leader for Spain, said the planned investment underscores the company’s support to all Spanish organizations in the speedy adoption of cloud technologies.
“Spanish enterprises and public sector organizations are rapidly embracing the cloud to gain access to the latest digital technologies such as AI,” he said.
“The upcoming public cloud in Madrid will help them address data residency requirements as well as regulations in key sectors such as financial services.”
In early May, Oracle announced that it is establishing a second cloud region in Italy through a partnership with TIM Enterprise, Total Telecom reported.
