Italy has placed a new order for 28 Centauro II 8×8 armored vehicles to complete the requirement set by the Italian Army.
In a press release on Thursday, the Iveco-Oto Melara Consortium, a joint venture between Iveco Defence Vehicles and Leonardo, announced that it signed the contract for the new batch with Italy’s Secretariat of Defence Land Armaments Directorate. Under the new deal, CIO will also provide integrated logistic support for the next 10 years.
The second generation of the military vehicle features more power than its predecessor. It has an H-drive scheme and a power-to-weight ratio that delivers speed and acceleration using its new-generation Iveco engine at 720 horsepower.
Centauro II’s fully digital architecture integrates the latest battlefield technologies, including digital tire pressure control, a HITFACT turret with a 120 mm gun, and command and control communications systems.
The armored vehicle was among the military technologies displayed at Eurosatory 2024 in Paris, France.
