BAE Systems is looking to expand Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle production capabilities as it expects new orders from the United States and potential new customers.
At Eurosatory 2024 in June, William “Bill” Sheehy, program director for AMPV at BAE Systems, told reporters that the company already plans to produce 220 AMPVs at its York factory annually. He also discussed conversations with the U.S. Army as it explores other AMPV applications, including using the platform for crewed control vehicles under the Robotic Combat Vehicles program.
Traditionally, the U.S. Army’s AMPV uses revolve around five areas: general purpose, medical evacuation, medical treatment, mission command and mortar carriers. BAE Systems has supplied the service branch’s AMPVs through the years. It recently secured a contract for the second round of the AMPV family of vehicles in April.
Also at Eurosatory, Paul Zukowski, international business development director for Europe at BAE, disclosed talks between the company and the governments of Romania and Poland on integrating the AMPVs within their armed forces.
According to the executives, the BAE York factory is more than enough to handle small orders from foreign states, but building a local production facility could be an option for larger orders.
