Swedish government leaders are visiting the United States this week to strengthen trans-Atlantic cooperation on defense and cybersecurity.
Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Sweden’s minister of civil defense, is scheduled to meet with representatives from the White House to discuss heightening geopolitical tensions and ongoing support for Ukraine.
The delegation, including Swedish State Secretary Johan Berggren, is expected to speak with Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., who sits as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, and senators from the Democratic and Republican parties.
Bohlin will also meet with Adm. Linda L. Fagan, the 27th commandant of the Coast Guard, to discuss critical underwater infrastructure protection.
The Swedish envoys’ U.S. itinerary also includes appearances at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
The Washington meetings are intended to deepen relations between the two allied nations following Sweden’s accession to NATO in March.
Stockholm recently signed a defense cooperation agreement with Denmark, another NATO ally, to procure military equipment and collaborate on maintaining security in the Baltic Sea.
