Idemia Joins European Consortium to Develop Quantum-Safe Data Protection Tech; Marc Bertin Quoted

Idemia Secure Transactions has joined a European consortium to design a technology that will protect sensitive data from potential quantum-enabled breaches.

The Hyperform consortium, jointly supported by France and the European Union, will advance the region’s goal of creating a sovereign capability for post-quantum cryptography.

According to Idemia Chief Technology Officer Marc Bertin, the collaborative effort will utilize the consortium’s ecosystem to produce a robust quantum-safe framework.

“We are very proud to lead the Hyperform consortium. This collaborative project highlights our shared expertise in post-quantum technologies and our joint commitment to crafting solutions that meet industry demands,” Bertin said.

The consortium, backed by $8.1 million in funding, will establish a prototype system for cloud data storage, document archiving, and online collaboration.

Idemia said the three-year project will also develop quantum-safe components to ensure that service providers can supply strong data security measures to customers.

Additionally, the program will design an advanced chip and create post-quantum cryptographic libraries to secure payment transactions and identity document reading.

French cybersecurity agency ANNSI, a consortium member, will oversee the security and performance evaluation of the envisioned solutions, which will be patterned after existing cybersecurity software.

The Hyperform consortium also includes CryptoNext, Atempo, Prim’X, Synacktiv, CEA Leti and INRIA, France’s national institute for digital science and technology.

Idemia’s work with the European project comes as it forged a research partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad to formulate post-quantum schemes and create post-quantum cryptography solutions for products’ long-term security.
