US Army Partnership to Boost Canada’s Ammunition Production Capacity

The U.S. Army has inked an agreement with the Canadian Commercial Corporation to expand Canada’s domestic ammunition production capacity.

Under the undefinitized contract action, the military branch will work with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Canada to ramp up the manufacture of 155 mm artillery rounds.

CCC, Canada’s government-to-government contracting agency, said the joint venture will help the United States and Canada meet their growing ammunition delivery commitments to Ukraine, whose continuing war efforts against Russia critically rely on Western support.

The company stressed that the partnership would also reinforce the resiliency of the integrated U.S.-Canada defense supply chain.

The collaborative effort will provide the necessary investment and technology that will enable GD-OTS Canada, a Canadian division of General Dynamics, to boost its 155 mm resupply production.

It will focus on producing M31A2 propellant at a higher rate to support the large-scale shipment of artillery rounds to Ukraine.
