Bechtel and Warsaw University of Technology have agreed to cooperate in developing a curriculum for students and professionals interested in joining Poland’s nuclear power workforce.
The Polish government announced its plan to build its first nuclear power plant in Pomerania in November 2022. Bechtel, together with Westinghouse Electric and Polish utility Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe, was awarded an engineering services contract in September 2023 to build the facility with a capacity of 3,750 MWe.
Leszek Hołda, Bechtel Poland president, said the partnership with the university will help develop and train the next generation of nuclear professionals and support the establishment of a European nuclear innovation hub in the country.
As part of the collaboration, Bechtel will train the university’s educators, support local internships, develop scholarship programs and organize nuclear power-related competitions.
Such activities are expected to help form the nuclear power workforce in preparation for the power plant’s anticipated commercial operation in 2033.
