Science and technology company Leidos has announced the promotion of Eric Freeman to CEO for its operations in the United Kingdom and Europe. Formerly chief operating officer at Leidos UK and Europe, Freeman replaces Simon Fovargue, who retired at the end of 2023.
Freeman’s new roles include managing Leidos UK’s internal organization and the operations divisions for national security, civil and logistics, according to the company’s website. Leidos said the position is critical toward integrating new U.S. technology into new products for U.K. and European customers.
The company’s announcement noted that Freeman has held senior Leidos roles for over 25 years and is armed with a “deep understanding of the defense community and its needs.” Before joining Leidos, he served in the U.S. Air Force where he held the rank of lieutenant colonel on his retirement.
Vicki Schmanske, Leidos commercial and international sector president, cited Freeman’s previous accomplishments as Leidos’ U.K. COO, his knowledge of the company’s U.K. businesses, and his leadership and problem-solving expertise. She expects his experience and know-how “will ensure strong performance and a solid strategy for Leidos UK’s next growth phase.”
Freeman expressed delight in his new role within Leidos’ commercial and international sectors. “We are keen to continue to leverage Leidos’ extraordinary technology capabilities for the U.K. government to strengthen and develop our business during 2024 and beyond,” he said.
