Elbit Systems Seals $600M Deal to Integrate Advanced Systems Into Australian Army's Redback IFVs

Elbit Systems has secured a $600 million contract to deliver systems for integration into the Australian Army’s fleet of Redback infantry fighting vehicles.

The deal, part of Australia’s Land 400 Phase 3 Project, will provide “advanced protection, fighting capabilities and sensors suite” for the military vehicles, according to the Haifa, Israel-based contractor.

The project, announced in August 2023, requires Elbit to supply the solutions over the next five years.

The latest contract win reaffirms the company’s commitment to equipping the Australian military with advanced, mission-critical capabilities, Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezhalel Machlis said in a statement.

“Elbit Systems is dedicated to supplying cutting-edge defense technologies that will safeguard troops on the modern battlefield,” he added.

The finalized agreement was announced after the Australian Ministry of Defence’s decision in December 2023 to select Hanwha Defense Australia for the delivery of 129 Redback IFVs.

Under the estimated $4.6 billion contract, the South Korean subsidiary will manufacture the Redbacks within Australia and fulfill the delivery requirements by 2028, Breaking Defense reported.

Following the contract award, Defence Australia said the IFV acquisition would enable the Australian Army to better respond to the region’s demanding land challenges.
