Aerospace company Saab has unveiled its first airborne early warning system aircraft for Poland.
The Saab 340 aircraft was presented to the customer at the Swedish airframer in Linkoping, southern Sweden, on Friday. Representatives from Sweden and Poland attended the ceremony.
“We are honored to provide this important capability to Poland and proud to be quickly progressing towards the delivery of this airborne early warning system to the Polish Armed Forces,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business unit.
The AEW is expected to strengthen the Polish Armed Forces’ capability to defend national security.
The unveiling comes just two months after Warsaw placed the order for two Saab 340 AEW aircraft for $55 million. The aircraft is equipped with an Erieye radar, which rapidly detects and tracks objects with high precision and a high update rate.
Saab attributes the quick delivery of the aircraft to its close collaboration with the Polish Armed Forces. The Stockholm-based company also has a production line that includes in-house experts for its AEWs.
