L3Harris Technologies will continue modernization and sustainment work on the U.S. Space Force’s Maintenance Of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities program under a $145 million contract action that exercises year four of the MOSSAIC initiative.

MOSSAIC detects, tracks and identifies deep space objects to provide timely and accurate space surveillance information for military, civil and commercial users at the U.S. military’s space surveillance and command centers in Colorado, California and Virginia.

In a press release announcing the contract award, Ed Zoiss, president of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris, said the upcoming enhancements on MOSSAIC “will improve current detection and tracking capabilities to better understand the location and behavior of objects in space.” He also highlighted the importance of “having the right information at the right time” during warfighting operations.

According to L3Harris, MOSSAIC upgrades will modernize space domain awareness ground systems to enable the execution of mission tasks associated with emerging threats. The enhancements will include communications infrastructure upgrades that allow machine-to-machine taskings to track and respond to objects in space.

The modernization initiatives will provide the Space Force with maximized awareness, enabling it to fulfill its mission of ensuring safety, security and sustainability across the space domain, L3Harris said.
