The U.S. Navy has awarded HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division a $1.3 billion contract modification to construct an LPD 32 amphibious transport dock.

The new fixed-price-incentive contract increases the total value to $1.54 billion. The original advance procurement contract, under which Ingalls would provide long-lead-time material and advance construction activities for LPD 32, was awarded in June 2022 and was valued at $240 million.

The company used the funds to purchase long-lead-time material and major equipment from almost 400 suppliers across 30 states.

Ingalls Shipbuilding president Kari Wilkinson emphasized the strength of the LPD 32 program and how it helped the Department of Navy to expand its capability to strengthen its critical industrial base network.

The LPD 32 will become the Navy’s 16th San Antonio class vessel and third Flight II LPD, HII said.
