RobertWorkExecutive Mosaic is honored to introduce Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work , for the second consecutive year, as an inductee into the 2016 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.

He was confirmed by the Senate to the Defense Department‘s second-highest civilian post in April 2014 and joined the Pentagon from his prior role as CEO of the Center for a New American Security, a national security think tank in Washington.

In 2015, Work helped lead DoD’s efforts to advocate for a Third Offset Strategy that seeks to bolster U.S. warfighting capabilities through deterrence and technological advantages over the adversary.

Work told a Center for a New American Security event in December 2015 that combat teaming, human-machine collaboration, autonomous weapons, machine-aided human operations and deep learning machines are areas the military plans to explore further in support of the strategy.

Post-war military budget declines and an increase in weapon development competition has greatly reduced the U.S.’ technological superiority and the Third Offset Strategy targets industry participation in efforts to rebuild that advantage, he said at a London-hosted forum in September 2015.

Work also pushed for DoD to integrate its wargaming program with analytics to generate insights on needed resources and capabilities to meet potential security threats in the future.

“This effort is part of our broader commitment to foster greater innovation within the department, make the most of increasingly constrained resources and avoid operational or technological surprise in tomorrow’s dynamic security environment,” Work said in a statement he co-wrote with Gen. Paul Selva, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Robert Work and the DoD team for their selection to receive this award.
