Sean Stackley

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Sean Stackley, assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy for research, development and acquisition, as the newest inductee into the Wash100 — a group of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.

Stackley has served in the role for nearly six-and-a-half years and is in charge of Navy and U.S. Marine Corps programs for warfare systems R&D and acquisition.

In early January, he told a National Defense Industrial Association-sponsored forum that Congress should military procurement laws should be adjusted in order to help with innovation efforts.

“Any legislation we get is going to beget more bureaucracy which is going to have the exactly opposite effect [from what’s intended],” he said.

He previously served as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s professional staff and provided oversight on science and technology, operations and maintenance and acquisition policy of the Navy and Marines.

Stackley, a former Navy surface warfare and engineering duty officer, has worked on the service’s LPD 17, USS Arleigh Burke and HMCS Halifax programs.

He holds degrees in mechanical engineering and ocean engineering and is a certified professional engineer in Virginia.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Sean Stackley and the Navy team for their selection to receive this award.
