L-3’s Michael Strianese Named to Wash100 for Market Vision and Nimble Leadership

Michael StrianeseExecutive Mosaic is honored to announce Michael Strianese, president, chairman and CEO of L-3 Communications as the newest inductee into the Wash 100, the premier group of leaders who create value for the American public and execute strategic vision at the intersection of the public and private sectors.

L-3 credits Strianese with playing a key role in its 1997 formation and served as its first vice president and controller when it would go public a year later in 1998.

The next decade saw Strianese add on increasingly great executive responsibility, booked ended by assuming the role of chairman in 2008. During that period, he elevated to senior vice president of finance in 2001, chief financial officer in 2005, and president, CEO and company director in 2006.

L3 logoStrianese played another major role in the structure of the firm when he announced in late 2011 that after a yearlong review with the board and company management that L-3 would spin-off some of its government services operations into publicly-traded company called Engility, a transaction that completed in July 2012.

“Through the transaction, L-3 will have a sharper focus on areas that are core to our strategy of providing market-leading, value-added products and solutions to our customers,” Strianese said.

L-3 has since formed a National Security Group to house its cyber, intelligence and security solutions and Strianese has overseen L-3’s efforts to extend its Defense Department and classified business reach, including through its acquisition of radar sensor maker Mustang Technology.

Strianese has also helped move the company expand in other markets, including civil simulation through L-3’s 2012 pick up of Thales Training & Simulation Ltd’s civil aircraft simulation and training business.

He is chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association and a member on the council on Foreign Relations.
