Defense Contractors Scale Back Furloughs Amid DoD Worker Recalls

Posted by Ross Wilkers on October 11, 2013 in News | 20 Views

The Pentagon’s decision to reinstate most of its furloughed workers could impact contractors whose employees report to government facilities, Federal News Radio reported Monday.

Some defense firms have already either scaled back or canceled their plans to lay off staff in response to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s decision to recall civilian employees, according to the report.

Dan Stohr, director of communications for the Aerospace Industries Association, told Federal News Radio contractors connected with agencies that have lapses in funding will still be affected by the shutdown.

“There will be industry workers that will be furloughed this week but that’s a result of the expiration of funding, not anything DoD has any direct influence over,” Stohr told Federal News Radio.
