SolarWinds, SANS Poll Federal IT Pros for Cyber Threat Survey; Sanjay Castelino Comments

Posted by David Barton on September 18, 2013 in Features | 35 Views

SolarWinds and SANS Institute have released the results of a joint survey to analyze the impact of cyber threats and how information technology professionals address those risks, DLT Solutions’ Technically Speaking blog reported Tuesday.

DLT web content specialist Josh Davis writes SolarWinds and SANS polled more than 120 government IT professionals for the survey, according to the report.

Forty-one percent of respondents who knew their budget said they had spent less than 5 percent of their budget on information security management, compliance and response, the survey said.

Sixty-five percent reported that at least one attack had disrupted their networks for more than a month, Davis writes.

“Since the responsibility of securing IT is not just the role of a security expert anymore, it’s important for all IT pros to be equipped to tackle security challenges,” Sanjay Castelino, vice president and market lead at SolarWinds, told the publication.

The survey identified personnel training and security information management tools as the top two areas for future investment.
