US, Indo-Pacific Partners Commit to Improving Defense Industrial Resilience

Attendees of the inaugural Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience plenary meeting have taken steps to strengthen defense industrial resilience between the United States, its allies and partners.

William LaPlante, U.S. undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, chaired the meeting, held from Oct. 7 to 8 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and attended by PIPIR member nations from the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions.

The event saw participants adopt a core vision statement focusing on principles that would guide collaboration on improving the resilience of the defense sector. They identified four workstreams: sustainment, production, supply chain resilience, and policy and optimization.

“PIPIR will help strengthen our collective ability to produce and sustain warfighting capability in the Indo-Pacific,” said LaPlante, a 2024 Wash100 awardee.

PIPIR, part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s commitment to the National Defense Industrial Strategy and Regional Sustainment Framework, aims to promote greater cooperation in the defense industrial base by reducing production barriers and addressing supply chain challenges.
