Hanwha Aerospace, WB Group Joint Venture to Produce Missiles in Poland

South Korean aircraft engine manufacturer Hanwha Aerospace will form a joint venture with Polish aeronautics firm WB Group to deliver CGR-080 missiles for Poland’s HOMAR-K artillery systems.

The two defense contractors sealed the joint venture through an executive agreement signed by Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il and WB Group President Piotr Wojciechowski on the first day of KADEX 2024. The deal involves the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Poland that will produce the CGR-080.

The site, expected to be operational within two years, will specialize in manufacturing the 239 mm version of the missile.

A memorandum of understanding signed in early September between WB and Hanwha Aerospace laid down the key requirements for establishing the new entity.

Poland has been modernizing its rocket forces in response to the war in Ukraine.

In December, Warsaw awarded Hanwha a $2.6 billion contract to provide over 150 K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers. The strategic partnership aligns with Son’s envisioned future for Hanwha Aerospace as a leader in defense innovation.
